The acronym, “AGRO-BIOGENICS”, connotes a very broad theme conveying the totality of the systems of Materials and Energy that are germane to life on earth. The resultant total “cause-and-effect”    phenomena have direct bearing on everything that emanates from and through “life”. Although there are arguments (based on observations of non-plant/ non-chlorophyll based deep sea microbial interactions bereft of sunlight?) that life and the “food/ energy of life” could be created without sunlight, it is now understood and accepted (more or less universally) that the “energy of life” is from direct sunlight. For, the first process in this “food chain” is the conversion of CO2 + Water (H2O) into the basic glucose food, in presence of that elusive “chlorophyll”, acted up on by sunlight. This happens in Plants (lowest levels such as algae), and life has evolved over hundreds of millions of years, catapulting modern humans at the TOP. Humans are yet to fully understand the most intriguing thing in nature: LIFE. However, it is observed that life and evolution are the “cause and effect” for all of energy and materials on earth – whether organic or inorganic. The death toll/ devastation in the tornado in Myanmar(Burma) that have been reported (while this write-up was under preparation, May 2008) is a telling example of the “cause and effect” phenomena that we are talking about. It is opined that agriculture and plant systems are the starting point for all human activated phenomena on earth; it is further noted that the future of humans would directly depend on how we shape the productivity/ efficiency of agriculture and all related activities and processes, thereby optimizing on land utilization, food generation and processing, eating habits, cultural habits, and reducing wastage and reversing shifting populations.

       

This thought process leads us to the concept of
AGRO-POLYMER INDUSTRY COMPLEX (APIX). The word “POLYMER” connotes a very broad meaning: that of the involvement of a series of integrated and inter-related techno-socio-commercial activities, without inflicting devastating changes to the ecology and environment. While APIX is the ground level processes and activities, AGRO-BIOGENICS is the totality of the system environment that encompasses the whole. The first word system (AGRO) connotes the theme that the resources are artificially created agriculture and plantation activity resources, including both plants/ vegetation based and animal based. The word – BIOGENICS – connotes the material and energy systems/ resources involved in the entire life forms and those that emanate from them (living and non-living). The causal connection between all of the natural phenomena (such as Rain, Wind, Soil, Sun ...) and Agro-Biogenics should be noted in that when we apply the principles of SUSTAINABILITY ENGINEERING to utilize these available resources for the good of all humans, all of these are interconnected in a way that the world has never thought of. It is noted that AGRO-BIOGENICS would be the future, not only in terms of the human resources and energy needs, but also in creating the greatest NEW VENTURES of the future.
